She began her career nearly 20 years ago as a trial attorney for the Colorado Public Defender in Boulder, Broomfield, and Denver. As a public defender and private attorney, Julia has defended thousands of criminal cases and tried over 80 cases to verdict. She has prevailed against serious felonies such as: first-degree murder, complex sexual assault, intricate economic crime cases, internet sex crimes, offenses involving child abuse and sexual assaults on children, DUI and traffic cases, and habitual criminal charges.

She is a premiere defender of Wildlife charges, and has preserved the rights, privileges, and businesses of numerous hunters, guides, and outfitters in our state and nationwide.

One of Julia’s specializations is defending those accused of sexual assault. She has tried dozens of sexual assault cases to jury verdict and has obtained countless dismissals and “no file” decisions. Julia has successfully assisted her clients in matters before the Colorado Department of Health and Human Services, the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, Liquor Licensing Authorities, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and University and K-12 Student Conduct offices. She has defended many civil lawsuits involving criminal allegations.

Julia has also taken her courtroom skills into the family courts to defend motions for permanent protective orders, dependency and neglect actions, motions to restrict parenting time, and motions to modify parental decision-making. Julia’s work has been featured in newspapers and nationwide media. In Adams County, Colorado, Julia defended a highly decorated and respected member of the Colorado National Guard against false accusations of serious theft. She tried the case and prevailed with a full acquittal. Her efforts for her client were profiled on 60 Minutes in the episode titled “Aftershock.”
